Keyword research

Automated keyword research that picks what your site can win

Every week the agent looks at what your site already ranks for, what your competitors rank for and you do not, and the searches around both. It orders them by what a site your size can realistically win, sets aside the ones that are not about your business, and shows you why it picked each one.

The order

Low competition keywords, measured against your own site

A keyword is only low competition for somebody. Sorted by volume, a young site’s list opens with head terms owned by sites a hundred times its size, and the article written for one of them ranks on page nine. So the agent scores every suggestion against your domain, prints the rule above the table, and tracks the best of them each week. That is why a 1,600-search keyword can sit fourth, below three smaller ones you can actually reach.

Measured against your domain.
Difficulty counts against your own domain rank, not as a number on its own.
Four multipliers, nothing hidden.
Searches, difficulty, buying intent and AI Overviews, so any row can be explained.
AI Overviews priced in.
A search Google answers with an AI Overview counts for a third less.

Set aside

The keywords it will not write for, and why

Research reports everything your competitors rank for, and much of it is somebody else’s business: their brand name, your own, job searches, an industry you do not serve. The agent sets those aside with a one-line reason, never tracks or writes for them on its own, and keeps the list open to you. Disagree with one and you can track it yourself, after which it will write for it.

Brand names, yours and theirs.
A competitor's name is an alternatives page, and that is your call to make.
Off-topic searches.
Job searches and other industries never become articles on their own.
Nothing hidden.
Every keyword set aside is listed, with the reason the agent gave.

Not a keyword explorer

Research that ends in a decision, not a spreadsheet

Every keyword tool sells the same volumes and difficulty scores. What a small site lacks is not the numbers but the hours to turn them into a list of articles, so that is the part the agent does.

What is automated keyword research?
Keyword research that runs without you: someone, or something, finds what your site already ranks for, what your competitors rank for and you do not, and the searches around both, then decides which are worth an article. RankHound's agent does that every week, and the result is not a spreadsheet. It is a short list of keywords it tracks and writes for, each with the reason it is there.
How does it decide which keywords my site can win?
With one rule it prints above the list. Monthly searches, scaled down the further a keyword's difficulty sits above your domain rank, raised a little when searchers are ready to buy, and cut by a third when Google answers with an AI Overview. Four multipliers and nothing hidden, so any row can be explained. A young site is aimed at keywords it can reach rather than head terms owned by sites a hundred times its size.
Where does the keyword data come from?
Search volume and keyword difficulty come from DataForSEO's index of Google results, refreshed with the weekly research. Your rank is a separate, live check of Google, once a week, through the top 100 results. The two are never mixed: an estimated position is never shown as your rank.
Can I add my own keywords?
Yes. Add any keyword and it is tracked and ranked from the next weekly check, and the agent can write for it. Every plan tracks up to 100 keywords, shared across up to 5 sites. You can also stop tracking one, and a suggestion you dismiss is never suggested again.
Why did the agent not pick a keyword my competitor ranks for?
Usually because it is somebody else's business: a competitor's brand name, your own brand, a job search, or an industry you do not serve. Those are set aside with a one-line reason and never tracked or written for on their own. If you disagree, track it yourself and the agent will write for it.
Is this a keyword research tool I can search?
No, deliberately. There is no keyword explorer and no database to browse. The numbers every keyword tool sells are the same numbers; what is ours is the choice of which keywords to write for, so that is what the screen shows. If you want to explore keywords for their own sake, a dedicated tool will serve you better.
